architect-on-demand, advice-without-strings

As architect on demand, I help DIYers with design-related questions. But it doesn’t stop there. My career is my calling; the work is passionately intertwined with personal growth. Yes, the main focus is the design and construction of my own life centered on infusing every day with meaning, lived to the highest DIY standards of lifelong learning.

Being an architect on demand allows me to professionally combine life and work without compromise.

I just got back from a 3-day trip to New York where I had to submit a project for a government agency approval. That’s why I did not have time to post on my blog last week. Instead, it was spent on tedious notes and schedules. But how fun it was to use my NY State Architect stamp for the first time!

While in NY, the results of this year’s Gardenista Considered Design Awards Contest were announced. I had entered in three categories, but wasn’t chosen as a finalist in any of them. In case you are interested, my entries are here, here, and here.

Thankfully, there was no time to dwell on the disappointment. Loving what I do day in and day out, I was immediately distracted by the next undertaking. Then, once I was done with all of the meetings related to the job that brought me to NY in the first place, I injected myself into daughter Mia’s design project.

I just couldn’t help it, an architect on demand or a closet graphic designer, I had to work on the logo.

Mia says that she likes it. Well, I basically followed her lead and converted poignant sketches into a computer-drafted font, specific to her emerging brand. I couldn’t stop designing and ended up with a whole alphabet. It’s very inspiring to work alongside your creative adult offspring!

Even after all of that, there was time left in the morning before my afternoon flight back to Los Angeles. I invited daughter Nastasya to see David Bowie Is exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. The most significant takeaway from the show for me was seeing how the artist kept evolving — constantly growing, changing, transforming. And really enjoying his calling! “All around the clock and then some.”

I can wholeheartedly relate to that. As architect on demand, I have a dream job that gives me purpose. My professional and family lives are one. It’s very fulfilling.

I love this personal, diary style blog post! It was such an incredible treat that your business as DIY Ally brought you to NYC on a sort of surprise mission! How inspiring it is to see how much you love what you do, and how it is intertwined throughout your whole life! You don’t just clock in and out, you live and breathe design and helping others with design and DIY projects alike! Congratulations on getting to use your New York stamp for the first time! Now that is remarkable, and as for Gardenista, you had bigger fish to fry anyway! Thank you for pioneering the graphic design process of my logo. I cannot wait to continue working on it with you! See you in a couple of days!!!

See you soon, Mia. I am secretly hoping that you will allow me to be your graphic design consultant.
      😉
